Spring Contact Pins

The spring contact pin is the heart of each adapter. And since this market - with its great versatility - offers such a wide array of products to solve virtually all contacting problems, it’s good to have a competent partner at your side. Key Data:

Diameter: 
The outer diameter of the receptacle determines the minimum grid distance (see below) at which the pins can be mounted on the printed circuit board.

Collar height (installation height):
Defines the height by which a portion of the sleeve protrudes the contact carrier plate. Within a certain tolerance range the collar height can be freely selected for each pin and, together with the spring force, determines the installation height.

Spring travel:
Defines the total travel (in millimetres) by which the spring-mounted tip can be moved. Approx. 80% of the spring travel can be used for the actual lifting height without damaging the spring.

Minimum grid distance:
The minimum grid distance (in millimetres) defines the minimum clearance between two adjacent test points on a component or test pad. 
It is limited by the diameter of the spring pins.
To cover a grid distance of 2.54 mm, for example, spring pin FS 254 with a diameter of 2.20 mm can be mounted on the receptacle.

Spring force:
Defines the maximum force in Newton by which the spring can be stressed without suffering premature damage. Depending on the type of spring pin and contacting problem to be solved, spring forces ranging from 0.8 to 5 Newton are available.

Electroplating (Galvanising):

In most cases the pistons (head shapes) are finished by means of hard gold plating or nickel; sometimes rhodium is used. The pin sleeves and receptacles are usually gold-plated.
